Principal's Message Minimize

As we pass the midterm of the 1st 9 weeks of school, it is time to look ahead to many activities coming up in the near future. The end of the 1st 9 weeks is coming up already on October 17th. We would like to remind you that you need to have at least $16.25 of your fees paid in order to receive your student’s report card. You may stop in the office and pay this portion, or pay the full amount of $65.

The 3rd grade Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA) will be administered during the week of October 6. We encourage parents to make sure that their 3rd grade students get a good night of sleep and a good breakfast. This will help ensure that your student does as well as he or she is capable of.

We have also recently completed our screening of students in K-3 in accordance with the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee (3GRG). This law requires the school to inform parents in writing if their child is in danger of not being “on-track” to be able to read at a 3rd grade level by the end of their 3rd grade year. If this is found to be the case, these “not-on-track” students will receive targeted intervention during their K-3 grade years to help them reach this goal. For more information about this law, one can go to the Ohio Department of Education website and click on the 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee link.

We also are pleased to inform you that we will be brining Mobile Discovery Theater to the school on October 14. This group brings a portable IMAX screen and will present showings to the PK-12. One of the main presentations will be on bullying. There are different bullying presentations that are tailored to the students’ grade levels. We also hope to be able to offer other presentations, chosen by the teachers, on this day to the students. In addition, we will also be having a movie night that evening. We will be showing a movie that evening, and all are welcome to attend. We will keep you posted with more details on this evening as the plans are finalized.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to continue to keep in contact with staff regarding questions or concerns that you may have. Maintaining a strong line of communication is the first step in helping to address problems and issues that may arise. I would discourage just keeping concerns or problems to yourself, or only discussing these with other parents/community members. We at the school need to be able to address issues that may arise, and we cannot do this if we are not informed accordingly. We need to work together to gather all of the facts so the situation can be resolved in the correct manner. This contact can be achieved through phone calls, emails, and/or parent teacher conferences that are coming up in the end of October and beginning of November. Thank you for your consideration in this matter, and we look forward to continued cooperation to make this school year the best it can be.
