As the weather begins to cool and the daylight hours become shorter, we are continuing to move rapidly through the school year. Please remember to make sure that your student(s) are properly dressed for school. They will continue to have outside recess unless it is raining, or the wind-chill is below 10oF. Inside the warm school building, our teachers continue to work hard to provide the best education possible to our students. They are continuing to utilize technology for online enrichment and intervention activities such as Study Island, STAR Enterprise, Xtra Math, Spelling City, and Flocabulary. From the first week of school, our 3rd grade teachers have been working very hard to prepare our students for the recently completed Fall Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA). We eagerly await the results, feeling confident that this year’s students will continue to achieve at as high of a rate as our students in the past.
Parent-teacher conferences will be held from 4:00-7:30 PM on October 28th and November 4th. We encourage as many parents as possible to participate in this valuable link between their children and teachers. Communication between parents and teachers has been shown to be beneficial to student achievement. I encourage you to continue to keep in contact with teachers through email, phone calls, or meetings. For example, we know that with a new math series in the PK-3 (My Math), there have been many growing pains as we make this change. After much discussion and research, we decided that this math series would be better able to meet the needs of all ability levels in PK-3. Please continue to contact your teachers with questions, and utilize the online tutorials and assistance that accompany this series. Our teachers also have Google sites that you may access via the school webpage. Many of these Google sites contain features such as additional intervention and enrichment activities, calendar of events, and class announcements.
As we continue to progress through the school year, there are many important and engaging events upcoming. Character Day parties will be held on October 30th, since school will not be in session on October 31st due to a teacher in-service. Please look for further details from the classroom teachers. The PTO will be meeting at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11th. Please support this organization, as this organization is very active in the elementary and has contributed in many ways to our students. They are constantly looking for more participation from the community, so please consider joining this worthwhile organization. For PTO contact information, please call or stop into the elementary office. In addition, we will be participating in a Mix 98.1 Christmas for Kids live drive in which we will be helping to “Fill the Bus” on November 18th. Please stay tuned for further details as this date draws nearer. On November 20th at 7:00 PM, the 4th grade will be presenting their musical, Summer Camp. Mrs. Smith has been working hard with the students, so please come out and support them for an exciting night of entertainment.
Once again, thank you for your positive contributions to your student’s educational process here at Antwerp Elementary.
