Picture REtake Day

Picture REtake Day will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 for PreSchool - 12th grade. If you did not get your picture taken first time around or you do not like the one that was taken, this is your day. Order forms are in the respective offices if you need one. If you are getting your original picture retaken please bring your packet with you. Any questions please contact the elementary or ms/high school office.

Fall Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2016 and Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 4:00-7:30pm. If you have not been contacted and would like to meet with your student(s) teachers please give the respective office a call. This is a great opportunity to meet your student's teachers.

Yearbook Honor Yearbook Honor

Congratulations to the Archer yearbook staff and advisor Mrs. Amy Sorrell. Their 2016 Shift-themed book received All Ohio in the Ohio Scholastic Media Association critique. This is the highest honor in the state critique. This was also the first time the assigned judge had ever given an All Ohio for yearbook.

The Archer yearbook staff is selling shirts that feature their 2017 "We Are" yearbook theme to support their yearbook student travel fund.  They are raising money in order to send students to national conventions.  Click here for an order form due February 17.

2017-2018 Transportation Procedures/Guidelines Antwerp Local Schools Bus Transportation Procedures/Guidelines

Parents, please read the Antwerp Local Schools Bus Transportation Procedures/Guidelines that will be coming home with your child before the end of the school year. This letter includes changes in transportation for next school year. The Transportation Form attached to the letter must be returned to the school by August 1st.

Meyer Named a Rep for OSMA

 

Congratulations to senior Erica Meyer, who will represent the Northwest Ohio region on the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA) student board. The board consists of ten students from around the state. The student board met on July 31st to discuss ideas for upcoming conferences and the spring convention at Kent State.  Yearbook advisor Amy Sorrell is on the adviser board for OSMA. Meyer will serve as the 2016-2017 Antwerp yearbook's co-editor, along with Becca Johanns.
 

National Honor Society Induction NHS

Congratulations to juniors and seniors Alexandra Hindenlang, Callie Perry, Brooke Hatlevig, Hayden Spryn, Brandon Laney, and Brian Geyer on their induction into the National Honor Society (NHS) on Sunday, October 10, 2016. The NHS recognizes high school students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship (GPA), leadership, service and character.

 

Spring Picture Day

Smile!! Spring Picture day will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017 for grades PK-12. Only students ordering pictures will be photographed. Orders can be placed online at mylifetouch.com before picture day or use the form sent home with students and return on picture day. Any questions contact the appropriate office.

Annual College T-Shirt Day College T-Shirt Day

On the seniors' last day of school, Antwerp High School had its annual College T-Shirt Day. Seniors wore shirts representing the college or university they will be attending next year, and faculty members wore shirts representing their alma mater.

Picture Day Is Coming

Picture Day will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 for elementary and also for the seniors and vantage students. Picture Day for grades 6-11 will be held on Thursday, September 29th, 2016. We do have extra forms for ordering in both the Elementary and High School Offices. You can also order pictures by going to mylifetouch.com and using the Picture Day ID: AW016028Y0 for the elementary, and Picture Day ID: AW016030Y0 for the middle/high school.

National Junior Honor Society Induction NJHS

Congratulations to the following middle school students on their induction into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS): Hayleigh Jewell, Madelyn O'Donnell, Mia Altimus, Allison Reinhart, Lydia Brewer, Lydia Krouse, Kate Farr, Kennadi Recker, Kaden Recker, Faith Nestleroad, Ross Lee, Ethan Sander, Aeriel Snyder, Shaylee Garrett, Autumn Smith, Laura Miller, Halie Davis, and Rayni Rister. The NJHS recognizes middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship (GPA), leadership, service and character.

 

Top STS Students Top STS Students

Seniors Matthew Dooley and Joshua Ehlinger of Antwerp High School were recently recognized for being the top Student Technology Services (STS) students for the 2016-2017 school year. Dooley and Ehlinger each received a $200 scholarship from an organization called Students for Other Students (SOS) to honor the positive impact they've had on those they have mentored during their time with STS. Elementary Student Council Elementary Student Council

Congratulations to the 2016-2017 third through fifth grade elementary student council representatives! These students engaged in the election process by creating a campaign poster and speaking in front of their classmates before the polls opened.

 

Hour of Code Hour of Code

Antwerp Local School students of all ages recently participated in Hour of Code activities. Hour of Code is a worldwide movement intended to introduce students to computer science and computer programming. 

Antwerp Middle School Spelling Bee Antwerp Middle School Spelling Bee Winners

Antwerp Middle School held its spelling bee on Friday, December 16th. Sixteen sixth through eighth graders competed in 23 rounds of spelling. Congratulations to three eighth graders who were the final contestants: Aaron (winner), Mallory (runner-up), and Joshua (runner-up).

New Bowling Lanes for Physical Education Bowling Lanes

101 Bowl in Woodburn recently donated bowling lanes to the Antwerp Local School physical education department. Teachers Scott McMichael and Josh Hoeppner will use the lanes to teach elementary students how to bowl.

Jump Rope for Heart Jump Rope for Heart

Recently students in grades 2 through 5 participated in Jump Rope for Heart. The students raised around $3,000 for the American Heart Association and enjoyed time off of class to engage in heart-healthy activities. Thanks to Mr. McMichael, who organized the event, and to the staff and faculty members who helped supervise it.

Congratulations to Antwerp students Alexie Bennett and Michael Taylor on their induction into the Vantage Career Center National Technical Honor Society on September 27, 2016.

Antwerp Elementary School Spelling Bee Antwerp Elementary Spelling Bee Winners

Antwerp Elementary School held its spelling bee on Thursday, December 15th. Ten fourth and fifth graders competed in over 20 rounds. Madisyn won the bee by spelling the word "digestive" correctly. She will represent Antwerp Elementary School at the Paulding County Spelling Bee on January 30, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Paulding Middle School. In the event that she cannot attend, Leila (runner-up) will take her place.

3-D Printer Now at Antwerp Local School Students Watch New 3-D Printer in Action

Antwerp Local School recently purchased a 3-D printer with funds from the 21st Century Learning grant. The printer will be used by the after-school tutoring program and by a variety of other classrooms in the district, including industrial arts/auto CAD.

New Science Project in Mr. Tempel's Class

This summer Mr. Tomlinson and Mr. Tempel visited a STEM school in Dayton and received a set of plate tectonics models created by the school's 2015-2016 eighth grade students. Mr. Tempel plans to implement this type of project in his science classroom this school year and is looking for ways to make cross-curricular connections with Mr. Tomlinson's language arts class. 

 

Native Plant Prairie Pavilion

Antwerp Local School is currently creating a native plant prairie on the two-acre field located north of the school. The area will include plants native to Northwest Ohio, which will benefit the environment by attracting and supporting birds, butterflies, and pollinators. The prairie will also provide learning opportunities for Antwerp students.

When completed, the prairie will include trees and shrubbery, a pavilion, picnic tables, grass paths, and a mailbox with identification books to help visitors spot butterflies, insects, and plants. Anyone will be welcome to visit the prairie.

New Antwerp Local School Van New Van

Antwerp Local School recently purchased a new 9 passenger Ford Transit Van to replace the 16 year old Chevy Astro Van. The new van will be used to transport students to academic and athletic events as well as pull band equipment to performances.  The van was purchased from Mark Moats Ford in Defiance, and identification lettering was added by West Bend Printing & Publishing, Inc., located in Antwerp, Ohio. Pictured with the van are Antwerp Local Superintendent Dr. Martin Miller and Elementary Principal Mr. Tim Manz.

Community Memorial Hospital Donates CPR Supplies

Thank you to Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) for donating two CPR in-school kits, which include 10 manikins each, and 10 infant manikins to our school district. Our health teachers will use these supplies to teach CPR to all health students, as well as to coaches and teachers. CMH's sponsorship of Antwerp Local School is a result of collaboration between Mr. Josh Hoeppner, Dr. Marty Miller, the American Heart Association, and CMH. CMH will also sponsor several more initiatives later this school year in conjunction with Hoops 4 Heart and Jump Rope for Heart.
